An Abbotsford couple is set to celebrate their recent lottery win with a classic British dish – fish and chips.
After purchasing a Set for Life scratch ticket at a local convenience store, the couple discovered they had won the top prize of $500,000.
The winning couple, who have chosen to remain anonymous, were in disbelief when they realized their good fortune. “We couldn’t believe it,” they said. “We had to check the ticket multiple times before it finally sunk in.”
The couple plans to use their winnings to pay off their mortgage and take a trip to England to visit family. They also plan to treat themselves to a nice dinner of fish and chips to celebrate their win.
The Set for Life scratch ticket offers players the chance to win a top prize of $1,000 a week for 25 years. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,176,000.
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) congratulated the couple on their win and reminded players to play responsibly.
“Congratulations to the lucky winners on their big win,” said BCLC spokesperson, Chris Fairclough. “We always encourage players to enjoy our games responsibly and to have fun.”
The BCLC also noted that lottery players have won over $1.2 billion in prizes so far in 2021.
