A 12-year-old girl and two other youths have been charged in connection with a shooting that took place in Cambridge, Ontario.
According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday evening in the area of Main Street and Queen Street. Officers responded to reports of gunshots and found a 17-year-old male victim with non-life-threatening injuries.
After an investigation, police arrested and charged a 12-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old boy with multiple firearm-related offences. Due to their ages, their identities cannot be revealed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The 12-year-old girl has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The 15-year-old boy has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The 16-year-old boy has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.
All three youths have been released on bail and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting and are asking anyone with information to come forward. They are also reminding the public that the possession of firearms by anyone under the age of 18 is illegal.
