A Coaldale man has been charged with attempted murder after a break and enter in Lethbridge.
According to Lethbridge Police, the incident occurred on December 19, 2021, at a residence in the 200 block of 12 Street North. The homeowner reported that an unknown man had broken into their home and assaulted them with a weapon.
The victim was able to escape and call for help, and the suspect fled the scene before police arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After an investigation, 35-year-old Coaldale resident, Michael Smith, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, break and enter, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Smith is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 5, 2022.
Lethbridge Police are reminding residents to always be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
