‘I jumped out of my sleep’: Several bullets fired into Toronto apartment building

A shooting on Chalkfarm Drive in Toronto has left one person injured and police searching for suspects.

According to Toronto Police, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Monday night in the area of Chalkfarm Drive and Jane Street. Officers responded to reports of gunshots and found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to a trauma centre with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

Police have not released any information about the suspects or a possible motive for the shooting. They are appealing to the public for any information or witnesses to come forward.

The area was closed off for several hours as police investigated the scene. Residents were advised to avoid the area and to expect delays in the surrounding streets.

This shooting is just one of many incidents of gun violence that have occurred in Toronto this year. According to data from the Toronto Police Service, there have been 437 shootings in the city as of August 2021, a 22% increase from the same time period in 2020.

Mayor John Tory has expressed his concern and frustration over the ongoing gun violence in the city, calling for stricter gun control measures and increased support for communities affected by gun violence.
