A minivan caught fire outside Vancouver City Hall on Tuesday afternoon, according to a witness at the scene. The incident resulted in the arrest of a man.
The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of City Hall, located at 453 West 12th Avenue. The witness, who wished to remain anonymous, reported seeing thick black smoke and flames coming from the minivan.
The Vancouver Fire Department was immediately called to the scene and was able to quickly extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
According to the witness, a man was seen being taken into custody by police. It is unclear at this time what led to the arrest or if the man is connected to the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The minivan sustained significant damage and was towed away from the scene.
City Hall remained open during the incident and there were no disruptions to services. However, the parking lot was temporarily closed off to the public.
