2nd 'suspicious incident' involving man in white van reported in New Westminster, police say

New Westminster police are investigating a second suspicious incident involving a man in a white van, according to authorities.

The incident was reported on Monday evening, just days after a similar incident was reported in the same area.

Police say that on Monday, a woman was walking in the 400 block of East Columbia Street when a man in a white van pulled up beside her and asked for directions. The woman became suspicious and quickly walked away, but the man followed her for a short distance before driving away.

This incident comes just days after a similar one was reported on December 31, where a man in a white van approached a woman and asked for directions before attempting to grab her arm. The woman was able to break free and the man drove away.

Police are now investigating both incidents and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. He is described as a white man in his 40s with a medium build and short, dark hair. He was reportedly driving a white cargo van with tinted windows.

Authorities are reminding the public to be cautious and aware of their surroundings, and to report any suspicious activity to the police.

Anyone with information about these incidents or the suspect is asked to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
