A tragic collision on Vancouver Island has claimed the life of a 63-year-old woman.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 19 and Cook Creek Road in the Comox Valley. The woman, who has not been identified, was driving a sedan when she collided with a pickup truck.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the woman with critical injuries. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 45-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest that the woman may have failed to yield to the oncoming truck.
The highway was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. It has since been reopened to traffic.
