Residents in Montreal are expressing their frustration and disappointment with the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) over the lack of proper consultation regarding a proposed ventilation station project.
According to a report by CTV News, residents in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough are concerned about the potential impact of the project on their community. The proposed ventilation station, which is part of the STM’s plan to expand the city’s metro system, would be located near the intersection of Décarie Boulevard and Jean-Talon Street.
Many residents feel that the STM did not adequately consult with the community before announcing the project. They argue that they were not given enough information about the project and its potential effects on their neighborhood.
In an interview with CTV News, resident and community organizer, Marie-Ève Gagnon, expressed her disappointment with the lack of transparency from the STM. She stated, “We feel like we were not consulted at all. We were not given any information about the project, and we were not given the opportunity to voice our concerns.”
Gagnon also raised concerns about the potential noise and air pollution that the ventilation station could bring to the area. She believes that the STM should have consulted with residents before making any decisions about the project.
In response to the criticism, the STM released a statement saying that they have been in communication with the borough and have held public consultations about the project. They also stated that they are committed to addressing the concerns of residents and finding solutions that will benefit the community.
However, residents argue that the consultations were not sufficient and that the STM did not take their concerns seriously. They are now calling for more transparency and meaningful consultation from the STM before any further decisions are made about the project.
The proposed ventilation station project is still in its early stages, and the STM has yet to submit a formal proposal to the borough. Residents are hopeful that their voices will be heard and that the STM will take their concerns into consideration before moving forward with the project.
In the meantime, community members are continuing to voice their opposition to the project and are calling on the STM to engage in a more open and transparent dialogue with the community. They believe that proper consultation is essential in ensuring that the project is beneficial for both the STM and the residents of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
