The Chatham Sports Hall of Fame has announced the recipients of their annual bursaries, while the Merlin Magic will be hosting the provincial championships.
The Chatham Sports Hall of Fame bursaries, which are awarded to local high school students who have excelled in both academics and athletics, were presented to four deserving individuals. This year’s recipients are Emily Van Damme from Chatham-Kent Secondary School, Kaitlyn Isaac from Ursuline College Chatham, and Madison Broad and Ethan Ciupka from John McGregor Secondary School.
Van Damme, who is a member of the Chatham-Kent Wildcats basketball team, will be attending the University of Windsor to study kinesiology. Isaac, who played for the Ursuline College Chatham Tartans volleyball team, will be pursuing a degree in nursing at the University of Windsor. Broad, a member of the John McGregor Panthers soccer team, will be studying nursing at the University of Windsor. Ciupka, who played for the John McGregor Panthers football team, will be attending the University of Guelph to study engineering.
The Chatham Sports Hall of Fame bursaries are a testament to the dedication and hard work of these student athletes, who have not only excelled in their respective sports but have also maintained high academic standards.
In other news, the Merlin Magic will be hosting the provincial championships for the first time in their club’s history. The U14 girls’ team will be competing in the Ontario Cup on August 9-11, while the U16 girls’ team will be competing in the Ontario Cup on August 16-18.
The Merlin Magic, a local soccer club, is excited to have the opportunity to showcase their talent and represent their community at the provincial level. The club has been working tirelessly to prepare for the championships and is looking forward to the challenge.
