A woman in Saskatchewan is currently in serious condition after being struck by a truck on Monday evening.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m. in the 100 block of 2nd Avenue North in Saskatoon. The woman, who has not been identified, was crossing the street when she was hit by a truck traveling eastbound.
Emergency services were immediately called to the scene and the woman was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
The area was closed off for several hours as police conducted their investigation. They are now asking any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
This is not the first time a pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle in Saskatoon. In 2020, there were 74 reported collisions involving pedestrians, resulting in 10 fatalities and 64 injuries.
In light of this recent incident, police are reminding both drivers and pedestrians to be cautious and aware of their surroundings. They urge drivers to always yield to pedestrians and for pedestrians to use designated crosswalks and follow traffic signals.
