Saskatoon’s Dakota Dunes Resort is set to welcome an exciting new addition to its already impressive list of amenities – an indigenous-themed thermal spa. This unique spa experience will offer guests a chance to relax and rejuvenate while also learning about indigenous culture and traditions.
The idea for the spa was born out of a collaboration between the Dakota Dunes Resort and the Whitecap Dakota First Nation. The resort’s CEO, Rob Gardiner, expressed his excitement for the project, stating that it will not only enhance the resort’s offerings but also provide an opportunity to showcase the rich history and traditions of the Whitecap Dakota people.
The spa will feature a variety of thermal pools, each with a different temperature and mineral composition, providing a range of health benefits. Guests will also have the option to indulge in traditional indigenous treatments such as smudging, sweat lodge ceremonies, and cedar baths. The spa will also offer a selection of indigenous-inspired massages and facials, using natural ingredients and techniques passed down through generations.
In addition to the spa experience, guests will have the opportunity to learn about the Whitecap Dakota culture through various educational programs and workshops. These will include teachings on traditional medicines, storytelling, and indigenous art and crafts.
The Dakota Dunes Resort is committed to working closely with the Whitecap Dakota First Nation to ensure that the spa is a respectful and authentic representation of their culture. Chief Darcy Bear of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation expressed his gratitude for the partnership, stating that it will provide economic opportunities for the community while also preserving and sharing their heritage.
Construction on the indigenous-themed thermal spa is set to begin in the fall of 2021, with an expected opening in the spring of 2022. This exciting addition to the Dakota Dunes Resort is sure to attract visitors from near and far, offering a unique and immersive experience that celebrates indigenous culture and traditions.
