Theatre Calgary kicks off theatre season with a play about a play where everything goes wrong

Theatre Calgary has officially launched its highly anticipated theatre season with a comedic play that promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Titled “The Play That Goes Wrong,” this production is a hilarious take on a play within a play, where everything that can go wrong, does.

The play, written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, follows the fictional Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they attempt to put on a murder mystery play. However, as the title suggests, things quickly spiral out of control and chaos ensues on stage.

Director Mark Bell describes the play as a “love letter to the theatre,” as it pokes fun at the mishaps and challenges that often occur during live performances. From missed cues to malfunctioning props, the audience can expect a night filled with laughter and surprises.
