Kelowna, BC – A tragic hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy has resulted in charges being laid against the driver responsible.
According to the Kelowna RCMP, the incident occurred on December 19, 2020, when the victim, identified as Ethan Klimchuk, was struck by a vehicle while walking on a sidewalk along Springfield Road. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving Klimchuk with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
After months of investigation, the RCMP announced on Tuesday that charges have been laid against 21-year-old Kelowna resident, Brandon Teixeira. Teixeira has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and driving while prohibited.
The news of charges being laid has brought some closure to Klimchuk’s family and friends, who have been grieving his loss since the tragic incident. In a statement, Klimchuk’s family expressed their gratitude to the RCMP for their diligent work in bringing justice for their son.
