A tragic accident near Sedgewick has left one person dead and another injured after a head-on collision between a semi-truck and an SUV.
The incident occurred on Highway 13, approximately 20 kilometers east of Sedgewick, on Tuesday afternoon. According to the RCMP, the semi-truck was traveling westbound when it crossed the center line and collided with the eastbound SUV.
The driver of the SUV, a 35-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 32-year-old woman, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi-truck, a 45-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the crash. The RCMP has not yet released any information on what may have led to the semi-truck crossing the center line.
The identities of the victims have not been released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
