Chatham, ON – The iconic Cone and Shake Shop in Chatham is celebrating a major milestone – 50 years in business. The beloved ice cream shop, located on Grand Avenue East, has been a staple in the community since it first opened its doors in 1971.
The shop, known for its delicious soft serve ice cream and classic milkshakes, has been a go-to spot for locals and tourists alike. Its bright red and white exterior and retro decor have become a familiar sight for those passing by.
Owner and operator, John Smith, took over the shop from his father in 1995 and has been running it ever since. He credits the shop’s success to its loyal customers and dedicated staff.
“We have customers who have been coming here since they were kids and now they bring their own children,” Smith said. “It’s really heartwarming to see the generations of families who have made our shop a part of their lives.”
Over the years, the Cone and Shake Shop has expanded its menu to include a variety of ice cream treats, including sundaes, banana splits, and specialty cones. But Smith says they have always stayed true to their roots.
“We’ve always focused on quality ingredients and making everything in-house,” he explained. “That’s what sets us apart from other ice cream shops.”
The shop has also become a popular spot for community events, such as fundraisers and car shows. Smith says they are proud to be a part of the Chatham community and give back whenever they can.
As for the future, Smith says they have no plans of slowing down. “We’re just going to keep doing what we do best – serving up delicious ice cream and making memories for our customers.”
To celebrate their 50th anniversary, the Cone and Shake Shop will be offering special promotions and giveaways throughout the summer. So be sure to stop by and join in on the festivities. Here’s to another 50 years of sweet success for this Chatham landmark.
