A tragic incident on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast has resulted in a son being charged with first-degree murder after his father’s death.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), officers were called to a residence in the community of Halfmoon Bay on December 27, 2020, after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased male, later identified as 71-year-old John Norman MacKenzie.
The victim’s son, 41-year-old Christopher Lee Norman MacKenzie, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with first-degree murder. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 6, 2021.
The RCMP has not released any further details about the incident, but have confirmed that the victim and suspect were known to each other and that there is no risk to the public.
The tight-knit community of Halfmoon Bay has been left in shock and mourning following this tragic event. Neighbors and friends have described the victim as a kind and gentle man who was well-liked in the community.
