2 teens killed, 5 injured in suspected drunk driving crash near Consort

Two teenagers tragically lost their lives and five others were injured in a suspected drunk driving crash near Consort, Alberta.

According to the RCMP, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when a pickup truck carrying seven people lost control and rolled over on a rural road. The two teenage passengers, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The five other occupants, all between the ages of 15 and 19, were taken to hospital with varying degrees of injuries. One of them remains in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 19-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and is facing charges of impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.

The identities of the victims have not been released, pending notification of their families.

The community of Consort is in shock and mourning the loss of two young lives. The local school, where the two deceased teenagers were students, has offered grief counselling for students and staff.
