One person taken to hospital after being shot in Lawrence Heights

A shooting in the Lawrence Heights neighborhood has left one person injured and in hospital.

According to Toronto police, the incident occurred on Monday evening near the intersection of Ranee Avenue and Flemington Road. Officers were called to the scene at around 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots.

Upon arrival, they found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current condition is unknown.

Police have not released any information about the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing and officers are appealing to the public for any information or witnesses to come forward.

The area has been cordoned off as officers continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses. Residents are advised to avoid the area until further notice.

This is the latest in a string of shootings in the city, with gun violence on the rise in Toronto. In 2021 alone, there have been over 400 shootings, resulting in over 100 injuries and 20 fatalities.
