Hamilton Police are urgently searching for a convicted sex offender who failed to appear for his sentencing on Monday.
The offender, identified as 35-year-old John Smith, was convicted of sexual assault and sexual interference with a minor in October. He was scheduled to appear in court for his sentencing, but failed to show up.
Police have issued a warrant for Smith’s arrest and are warning the public not to approach him if they see him. Smith is considered a high-risk offender and may pose a danger to the community.
According to police, Smith has a history of sexual offences and has previously breached his conditions of release. He is known to frequent the Hamilton area, but may also travel to other parts of Ontario.
Smith is described as 6’2″ tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, with short brown hair and blue eyes. He has a tattoo of a skull on his left forearm and a tattoo of a dragon on his right forearm.
Anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts is urged to contact Hamilton Police immediately. Police are also reminding the public to always be cautious and aware of their surroundings, especially when encountering individuals with a history of sexual offences.
The safety of our community is of utmost importance and we urge anyone who may have information on Smith’s location to come forward. We also ask that anyone who sees Smith to not approach him and to instead contact the authorities.
