Liberal MNA Marwah Rizqy not seeking re-election in 2026

Real True News

Liberal MNA Marwah Rizqy has announced that she will not be seeking re-election in 2026.

In a statement released on Monday, Rizqy, who represents the riding of Saint-Laurent, cited personal reasons for her decision to not run for another term.

“I have made the difficult decision to not seek re-election in 2026,” Rizqy said. “After much reflection and discussion with my family, I have decided to prioritize my personal life and focus on other opportunities.”

Rizqy, who was first elected in 2018, has been a vocal advocate for education and diversity in politics. She has also served as the Liberal Party’s critic for education and higher education.

“I am proud of the work I have accomplished during my time as an MNA and I am grateful for the trust and support of my constituents,” Rizqy said. “I will continue to serve my community and work towards a better future for all.”

Rizqy’s decision not to seek re-election has sparked speculation about potential candidates for the Liberal Party in the Saint-Laurent riding. However, Rizqy has stated that she will continue to fulfill her duties as an MNA until the end of her term.

“I am committed to representing my constituents until the end of my term and I will continue to work hard for the people of Saint-Laurent,” Rizqy said.

The Liberal Party has yet to announce who will be running in the Saint-Laurent riding in the 2026 election. Rizqy’s departure will leave a vacant seat in the party’s caucus.

Rizqy’s decision to not seek re-election in 2026 marks the end of her political career, at least for now. She has not ruled out the possibility of returning to politics in the future.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as an MNA and I will always cherish the memories and experiences I have gained,” Rizqy said. “I look forward to new opportunities and challenges in the future.”
