A murder suspect has been apprehended by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Mackenzie, British Columbia, according to authorities.
The arrest was made on Wednesday, January 5, after an extensive investigation by the RCMP Major Crime Unit and the Mackenzie RCMP detachment.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is believed to be responsible for the death of a 35-year-old man in Mackenzie on December 30, 2021.
The victim, whose name has also not been disclosed, was found deceased in a residence on the 100 block of Skeena Drive. The cause of death has not been revealed.
The RCMP has stated that the suspect and the victim were known to each other and that this was an isolated incident. They have also assured the public that there is no ongoing risk to the community.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is facing charges of second-degree murder. They are scheduled to appear in court on Friday, January 7.
The RCMP has expressed their gratitude to the community for their cooperation and assistance in this investigation. They have also extended their condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
