1 man hospitalized following serious collision on Deerfoot Trail

A serious collision on Deerfoot Trail has left one man hospitalized, according to Calgary emergency services.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, when a vehicle traveling southbound on Deerfoot Trail collided with a semi-truck near the intersection of 64 Avenue NE.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the driver of the vehicle, a man in his 30s, trapped inside. Firefighters had to use specialized equipment to extricate him from the vehicle.

The man was then transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the collision.

The southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail were closed for several hours as police investigated the scene and crews worked to clear the wreckage. The lanes have since been reopened.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but police say speed may have been a factor.
