Niagara Police Search for SUV-Style Vehicle Involved in Fatal Hit-and-Run
The Niagara Regional Police Service is appealing to the public for any information regarding a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on December 19th, 2021.
According to authorities, the incident took place around 6:30 p.m. on Regional Road 20, near the intersection of Effingham Street in Pelham. A 59-year-old man, identified as John Smith, was struck by a vehicle while walking along the road. The vehicle then fled the scene, leaving Smith with life-threatening injuries.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render assistance or contact emergency services.
The Niagara Regional Police Service’s Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation and is now seeking the public’s help in locating the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The vehicle is described as a dark-colored SUV-style vehicle, possibly with damage to the front end.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information about the vehicle or its driver to come forward. They are also asking body shops and mechanics in the area to be on the lookout for a vehicle matching the description with recent front-end damage.
In a statement, Detective Sergeant John Doe stated, “We are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could assist us in locating the vehicle and identifying the driver responsible for this tragic incident. We also urge the driver to do the right thing and come forward to take responsibility for their actions.”
