1. Impaired Driving Arrest
On Tuesday, June 1st, 2021, at approximately 11:30 PM, Hanover Police Service officers conducted a traffic stop on 10th Street in Hanover. The driver, a 32-year-old Hanover resident, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result, they were arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg. The individual’s driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
2. Break and Enter
On Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021, at approximately 3:00 AM, Hanover Police Service officers responded to a report of a break and enter at a business on 10th Street in Hanover. The suspect(s) gained entry by breaking a window and stole a quantity of cash. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
3. Fraud Scam Alert
The Hanover Police Service would like to warn the public about a recent fraud scam targeting local residents. The scam involves individuals receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from a government agency, such as the Canada Revenue Agency or Service Canada. The caller then requests personal information, such as social insurance numbers and banking information, under the guise of verifying identity or providing financial assistance. The Hanover Police Service reminds everyone to never give out personal information over the phone and to verify the legitimacy of any requests before providing any information.
4. Traffic Safety Reminder
With the warmer weather upon us, the Hanover Police Service would like to remind drivers to be cautious and aware of pedestrians and cyclists on the road. Drivers are reminded to slow down and give extra space when passing cyclists and to always yield to pedestrians at crosswalks. Pedestrians and cyclists are also reminded to follow traffic laws and to wear reflective clothing when out at night.
