Kelowna residents and visitors will have to find an alternative route for their outdoor activities as a popular trail in the city closes for construction.
The City of Kelowna has announced that the Mission Creek Greenway trail, which runs from the Hollywood Road South entrance to the Field Road entrance, will be closed for construction starting on Monday, September 13th. The closure is expected to last for approximately two weeks, with the trail reopening on Friday, September 24th.
According to the city, the closure is necessary for the installation of a new pedestrian bridge over Mission Creek. The bridge will replace the existing one, which has been in place since 1996 and has reached the end of its lifespan.
The new bridge will be wider and more accessible, with a concrete deck and handrails on both sides. It will also feature a viewing platform, providing a scenic spot for trail users to take in the beauty of Mission Creek.
The closure of the trail may cause inconvenience for those who regularly use it for walking, running, or cycling. However, the city assures that the new bridge will enhance the overall experience for trail users and improve safety.
In the meantime, the city recommends using the Hollywood Road North entrance to access the northern section of the trail, or the Field Road entrance to access the southern section. Alternative routes for outdoor activities can also be found at nearby parks and trails, such as the Mission Creek Regional Park and the Mission Creek Greenway Regional Park.
The Mission Creek Greenway is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a peaceful and scenic escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The closure of the trail may be temporary, but the improvements being made will benefit the community for years to come.
So, while the closure may cause some inconvenience, it is a necessary step towards enhancing the trail and ensuring the safety of its users. The city urges everyone to plan ahead and find alternative routes during the closure, and looks forward to welcoming everyone back to the improved Mission Creek Greenway trail on September 24th.
