A Vancouver Island couple is celebrating after winning a whopping $1 million on the Lotto Max.
The lucky winners, who have chosen to remain anonymous, purchased their winning ticket at a local convenience store in Nanaimo. They were shocked and overjoyed when they discovered they had matched all seven numbers in the December 29th draw.
The couple, who have been playing the lottery for years, say they plan to use the money to pay off their mortgage and take a much-needed vacation.
“We couldn’t believe it when we saw all the numbers matched,” the couple said in a statement released by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). “We’ve always dreamed of being mortgage-free and now that dream is a reality. And we can finally take a trip we’ve been putting off for years.”
The BCLC says the odds of winning the Lotto Max jackpot are approximately one in 33 million. The winning numbers for the December 29th draw were 3, 4, 5, 7, 31, 33, and 44.
The couple’s win is the latest in a string of big lottery wins in British Columbia. In November, a Surrey man won $1 million on a scratch-and-win ticket, and in October, a Vancouver man won $2 million on a Lotto 6/49 ticket.
The BCLC encourages all lottery players to play responsibly and to know their limits. They also remind players to check their tickets carefully and to sign the back of their tickets as soon as they purchase them.
As for the lucky Vancouver Island couple, they say they are still in disbelief and are looking forward to a bright future thanks to their million-dollar win.
