A 53-year-old man from Quebec has been arrested after a wild and lengthy pursuit that involved stealing a salt truck and climbing a tree to evade police.
According to authorities, the incident began on Monday evening when the man, who has not been identified, stole a salt truck from a parking lot in Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, a town located about 30 kilometers northwest of Quebec City.

As the pursuit continued, the man abandoned the truck and fled on foot, eventually climbing a tree in an attempt to evade arrest. Police were able to locate and apprehend him after a brief standoff.
The man is now facing multiple charges, including theft of a vehicle, dangerous driving, and evading arrest. He is also being evaluated for potential mental health issues.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit, but the incident caused significant traffic disruptions and delays.
Authorities have not yet released a motive for the man’s actions, but they have confirmed that he is known to police and has a history of criminal activity.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
