China has emerged as one of the top importers of Nigerian goods, with a total of $2.3 billion worth of goods being imported in just six months. This was revealed by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Zhou Pingjian, during a meeting with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo.
According to Ambassador Pingjian, the trade volume between China and Nigeria has been steadily increasing, with China being Nigeria’s largest trading partner for the past ten years. He also highlighted the fact that China has been a major contributor to Nigeria’s economic growth, with Chinese investments in various sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and manufacturing.
The envoy further stated that China is committed to strengthening its trade relations with Nigeria and is actively seeking to increase imports of Nigerian goods. He also emphasized the importance of diversifying the trade between the two countries, with a focus on non-oil products.
In response, Minister Adebayo expressed his appreciation for China’s support and partnership with Nigeria. He also highlighted the potential for further growth in trade between the two countries, especially in the areas of agriculture and manufacturing.
The minister also urged Chinese investors to take advantage of the various incentives and opportunities available in Nigeria, such as the recently launched Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) and the Ease of Doing Business reforms.
