A Winnipeg woman is being hailed as a hero after she saved her father and a child from drowning in a lake on Sunday.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. at Lake Winnipeg, near the town of Gimli.
The woman, who has not been identified, was out on a boat with her father when they noticed a young child struggling in the water. Without hesitation, the woman jumped into the lake and swam towards the child.
She was able to reach the child and bring them back to the boat, where her father helped pull them to safety. Both the child and the woman’s father were unharmed.
The woman’s quick thinking and bravery have been praised by the Winnipeg Police Service, who called her actions “heroic.”
In a statement, the police service said, “Without her selfless and courageous actions, this incident could have had a tragic outcome.”
The woman’s father also expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am so proud of my daughter. She didn’t hesitate for a second and saved that child’s life.”
