A tragic building collapse in New Delhi has left at least four people dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred in the Bhajanpura area of the Indian capital on Saturday, when a four-story building collapsed, trapping several people under the debris.
Rescue teams immediately rushed to the scene and began a frantic search for survivors. According to officials, four people were pulled out from the rubble and pronounced dead at the hospital. Among the deceased were two children, aged 10 and 12.
Several others were also rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment. The exact number of injured individuals is still unclear.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud noise before the building collapsed, causing panic among the residents. The building was reportedly over 20 years old and had been declared unsafe by authorities, but residents continued to live in it.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Initial reports suggest that the building may have been weakened by recent heavy rains in the area.
This is not the first time a building has collapsed in New Delhi. In 2019, a similar incident occurred in the city’s congested Sadar Bazar area, killing at least five people.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of buildings in the city, especially those that are old and poorly maintained. The government has been urged to take strict action against those responsible for allowing people to live in unsafe buildings.
