On Monday April 8, 2024, Eastern Canada will experience a solar eclipse. The eclipse will be passing through the Niagara Region, with the path of totality crossing the cities of Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, and Port Colborne.
This rare occurrence is expected to draw visitors from across Ontario, Canada, and the United States to Niagara. With Niagara Falls being one of Canada’s top tourism destinations indications are that thousands of visitors will be coming to Niagara.
As we prepare for this event, and the anticipated influx of visitors, significant planning is underway. From a communications perspective, the Niagara Regional Police Service will be sharing regular updates and information on our social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, and TikTok) leading up to the event to pass along public safety and public service announcements.
A representative is available to conduct interviews with the media (phone, Zoom, in person, in studio can be arranged). We recognize that many of the visitors to Niagara will be from the Greater Toronto Area, and it is important for us to reach this audience.
From a policing perspective we will be able to talk about the event and our key areas of focus: Traffic Congestion and Emergency Preparedness and personal safety related to eye protection.
We have now launched our webpage on our website for more information: LINK.
