Three suspects are being sought after a road rage incident in Whitby ended in a violent stabbing, leaving one person with multiple wounds.
According to Durham Regional Police, the altercation occurred on Sunday evening around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Thickson Road and Burns Street. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was driving their vehicle when they became involved in a dispute with the suspects.
The situation quickly escalated and the suspects allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene. The victim was able to drive themselves to a nearby hospital where they are currently being treated for their injuries.
Police have described the suspects as three males, believed to be in their late teens or early twenties. They were last seen driving a dark-coloured sedan, possibly a Honda Civic, with tinted windows and a loud exhaust.
The motive for the attack is still under investigation, but police believe it may have been a result of road rage. They are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Residents in the area are shocked and concerned about the incident, with many expressing their disbelief that such violence could occur in their community.
The police are reminding the public to remain calm and avoid engaging in confrontations while on the road. They also advise drivers to report any aggressive or dangerous behaviour to authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Durham Regional Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously. The investigation is ongoing and police are determined to bring the suspects to justice.
