'Canstruction' campaign looks to add much-needed boost to Calgary Food Bank

The Calgary Food Bank is set to receive a much-needed boost thanks to the Canstruction campaign. This annual event, organized by the Society of Design Administration (SDA), aims to raise awareness and collect donations for the food bank through a unique and creative approach.

The Canstruction campaign involves teams of architects, engineers, and designers coming together to build structures entirely out of canned food. These structures are then put on display at the Southcentre Mall for the public to admire and vote on their favorite. After the event, all the canned food used in the structures is donated to the Calgary Food Bank.

This year’s theme for the Canstruction campaign is “Hunger Heroes,” with each team creating a structure that represents a superhero or a character from a comic book. The goal is to not only collect donations but also to bring joy and entertainment to the community.

According to the SDA, the Canstruction campaign has been a huge success in the past, with over 200,000 pounds of food collected since its inception in 2002. This year, the organization hopes to surpass their previous record and make a significant impact on the Calgary Food Bank’s resources.

The Calgary Food Bank has been facing a high demand for its services due to the ongoing pandemic. With many families struggling to make ends meet, the food bank has been working tirelessly to provide essential food items to those in need. The Canstruction campaign comes at a crucial time and will undoubtedly provide a much-needed boost to the food bank’s efforts.

The Canstruction campaign not only helps the Calgary Food Bank but also brings the community together for a good cause. It showcases the creativity and generosity of the participants and encourages others to get involved and make a difference.

The structures will be on display at the Southcentre Mall from March 5th to 14th, and the public is encouraged to visit and vote for their favorite. Donations of non-perishable food items can also be made at the mall during this time.

In a time of uncertainty and hardship, the Canstruction campaign serves as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Let us all come together and support this worthy cause to help those in need in our community.
