MISSING PERSON – NRPS in St. Catharines are Searching for 32-Year-Old Man – Update 2 – CHARGES

Continued investigation by 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) detectives has resulted in charges against two persons in relation to the death of Jonathan Cronkwright.

On Sunday April 7, 2024, the suspects were arrested and charged.  34-year-old Michael (Mike) Patterson (no fixed address) and 33-year-old Samantha Embert (no fixed address) have both been charged with:

–              Dead Body: Neglect duty, contrary to Section 182(a) of the Criminal Code

–              Dead Body: Indignity to, contrary to Section 182(b) of the Criminal Code

Patterson and Embert are both being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday April 8, 2024, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.

Investigators recognize the difficult time and circumstances endured by the family and friends of Jonathan and appreciate their cooperation with the investigation. 

Foul play is not suspected in Jonathan’s death.

Detectives do believe additional persons may have information in relation to the events leading up to and following Jonathan’s death. Investigators continue to encourage those persons to contact the investigating officers by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1004233.

UPDATE 1 – March 11, 2024

On March 9, 2024, at 10:28am 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to an assist ambulance call in the City of St. Catharines.

A body was discovered at a Raymond Street house. The body had been located by a civilian volunteer search party looking for local missing man Johnathon Cronkwright.

1 District detectives have been assigned to the investigation. The identity of the deceased male has now been positively determined by forensic investigators to be Johnathon Cronkwright 32 years old of St. Catharines.

The scene had been secured by officers but has since been released.

The circumstances around Jonathan’s death remain under investigation by detectives. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the investigating officers by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1004233.

ORIGINAL RELEASE – March 5, 2024

Officers from the 1 District – St. Catharines / Thorold office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) are searching for missing person Johnathon Cronkwright.

It was reported to the NRPS on March 4, 2024, that Johnathon was last seen on February 29, 2024, walking in the area of Tasker Street and Welland Avenue in St. Catharines. His current location is unknown.

Johnathon is described as:

Indigenous male

Approximately 330lbs.

5’5 feet tall

Brown eyes

Black short hair

Black facial hair

He was last seen wearing a grey jacket with red stripes, grey joggers, and white Nike shoes.

The police and Johnathon’s family are concerned for his welfare. Anyone who may have information as to his location are asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009356.
