Phase 5 of Glenmore Recreation Park among $21 million in Kelowna parks spending this year

Kelowna residents can look forward to some exciting improvements in their local parks this year, as the city has announced a $21 million investment in park upgrades. Among the projects planned is the highly anticipated Phase 5 of Glenmore Recreation Park.

The Phase 5 development of Glenmore Recreation Park will include a new playground, a multi-use sports field, and a picnic area. This addition will provide even more opportunities for families and individuals to enjoy the outdoors and stay active.

But that’s not all – the city has also allocated funds for upgrades to 20 other parks in Kelowna. These improvements will range from new playground equipment and sports fields to trail expansions and accessibility upgrades.

Mayor Colin Basran expressed his excitement for the upcoming park upgrades, stating that they will “enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.” He also emphasized the importance of investing in parks and green spaces, as they play a crucial role in promoting physical and mental well-being.

The $21 million investment in Kelowna parks is part of the city’s larger plan to create a more livable and sustainable community. This includes initiatives such as the Urban Forest Strategy, which aims to increase the city’s tree canopy cover to 20% by 2025.

Residents can expect to see construction and upgrades taking place throughout the year, with the majority of projects set to be completed by the end of 2021. The city has also assured that all necessary safety protocols will be followed during the construction process.

With the Phase 5 development of Glenmore Recreation Park and other park upgrades on the horizon, Kelowna residents have much to look forward to. These investments not only enhance the city’s green spaces but also contribute to the overall well-being of its residents.
