A suspect was shot by police after an officer was stabbed in the city’s west end, according to authorities.
The incident occurred on Monday evening near the intersection of Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue West.
According to Toronto police, officers were responding to a call about a man with a knife in the area. When they arrived, the suspect allegedly stabbed one of the officers.
In response, another officer fired their weapon, striking the suspect. The suspect was then taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries.
The injured officer was also transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to investigate the incident. The SIU is an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death.
The area has been cordoned off as the investigation continues.
