A tragic collision in Clarington has left one person dead, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at the intersection of Taunton Road and Courtice Road. Durham Regional Police were called to the scene at around 6:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a collision involving two vehicles.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found one person trapped inside a vehicle and immediately began extrication efforts. Despite their best efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The intersection was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation. It has since been reopened to traffic.
