Man charged with second-degree murder in homicide of Manitoba teen

A man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a Manitoba teenager.

According to police, the 19-year-old victim was found unresponsive in a residence in the rural municipality of St. Clements on March 27. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

After an investigation by the RCMP Major Crime Services, 21-year-old Tyler William Ranville was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Austin Monias from Pauingassi First Nation.

The community has been left in shock and mourning following Monias’ death. He was described as a kind and caring young man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Ranville is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 1.

The RCMP is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Monias’ death and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
