A man who was previously arrested for a violent altercation on a TTC streetcar in 2020 has now been charged in connection with another alleged incident on the transit system.
According to Toronto police, the man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm and mischief under $5,000.
The incident in question occurred on March 2, when a man allegedly assaulted a TTC employee on a streetcar near Bathurst Street and Queen Street West. The employee sustained minor injuries.
The accused, who has not been named, was previously arrested in connection with a violent altercation on a TTC streetcar in October 2020. He was charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon in that incident.
The latest charges against the man highlight the ongoing issue of violence on the TTC. In 2020, there were 2,280 reported incidents of assault on TTC employees, an increase of 10% from the previous year.
TTC spokesperson Stuart Green stated that the safety of their employees and customers is a top priority and that they are working closely with Toronto police to address these incidents.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on April 28.
