A boil water advisory has been issued for the Rural Municipality (RM) of Gimli, affecting residents and businesses in the area.
According to officials, the advisory was put in place due to a water main break that occurred on Monday. The break has caused a drop in water pressure, which could potentially lead to harmful bacteria entering the water supply.
Residents and businesses in the RM of Gimli are advised to boil their water for at least one minute before consuming it, using it for cooking, or brushing their teeth. This includes water used for making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, and preparing baby formula.
The advisory will remain in effect until further notice, as officials work to repair the water main and ensure the safety of the water supply. In the meantime, residents are urged to use bottled water or obtain water from a safe source.
The RM of Gimli has also set up a water distribution site at the Gimli Recreation Centre for those who are unable to boil their water. The site will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until the advisory is lifted.
Officials are reminding residents to continue following COVID-19 safety protocols while obtaining water from the distribution site, including wearing a mask and maintaining physical distancing.
It is important to note that the boil water advisory only applies to the RM of Gimli and does not affect the City of Gimli.
Residents are advised to monitor the RM of Gimli’s website and social media pages for updates on the advisory. They can also contact the RM office at 204-642-6650 for more information.
We will continue to provide updates on this situation as more information becomes available. In the meantime, we urge residents to take the necessary precautions and follow the boil water advisory to ensure their safety.
