1 dead, others injured after London-Singapore flight hit severe turbulence, Singapore Airlines says

A London to Singapore flight operated by Singapore Airlines encountered severe turbulence, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, according to the airline.

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 11, when flight SQ308 encountered turbulence during its descent into Singapore’s Changi Airport. The airline confirmed that one passenger had passed away, while several others sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In a statement, Singapore Airlines expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased passenger and stated that they are providing full assistance to the injured passengers and their families.

The airline also reassured that the safety of their passengers and crew is their top priority and that they are working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the incident.

According to reports, the turbulence was caused by a sudden change in weather conditions, which the pilot was unable to avoid. The flight crew immediately activated the seatbelt signs and instructed passengers to remain seated, but unfortunately, the turbulence was too severe.

Passengers on the flight described the experience as terrifying, with some reporting that they were thrown out of their seats and hit the ceiling of the plane. The injured passengers were treated by medical personnel upon landing, and the airline has offered to cover any medical expenses incurred.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has also released a statement, stating that they are aware of the incident and are working with the airline to investigate the cause of the turbulence.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of air travel and the importance of following safety protocols. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased passenger and we wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

As the investigation continues, Singapore Airlines has assured that they will provide updates and support to all those affected by this incident.
