OnDemand transit service well-received in Kelowna’s Crawford community

Kelowna, British Columbia – The city of Kelowna has recently launched a new on-demand transit service, providing residents with a more convenient and flexible way to travel.

The service, called “Crawford Connect,” is a partnership between the City of Kelowna and BC Transit. It allows passengers to request a ride through a mobile app or by calling a dedicated phone number. The service operates within a designated zone in the Crawford area, covering popular destinations such as the Orchard Park Shopping Centre, Kelowna General Hospital, and the downtown core.

According to the City of Kelowna, the on-demand transit service was created in response to the changing transportation needs of the community. With the rise of ride-sharing apps and the increasing demand for flexible transportation options, the city saw an opportunity to improve the transit experience for its residents.

The service operates from 6:30 am to 9:30 pm, seven days a week, and offers affordable fares that are consistent with the regular transit system. Passengers can pay using cash, credit, or debit, and can also use their monthly transit passes or U-Passes.

To ensure the safety and comfort of passengers, all Crawford Connect vehicles are equipped with safety features such as GPS tracking, security cameras, and emergency buttons. The service also follows strict COVID-19 protocols, including mandatory mask-wearing and regular sanitization of vehicles.

Mayor Colin Basran expressed his excitement for the new service, stating that it will provide residents with a more convenient and efficient way to get around the city. He also highlighted the environmental benefits of using public transit, stating that it aligns with the city’s goal of reducing carbon emissions.

The launch of Crawford Connect is just one of the many initiatives that the City of Kelowna has implemented to improve its transit system. Other projects include the expansion of bus routes and the introduction of electric buses.

Residents of Kelowna can now enjoy a more convenient and flexible way to travel with the launch of Crawford Connect. With its user-friendly app, affordable fares, and commitment to safety, the on-demand transit service is set to make a positive impact on the community.
