A tragic fire at a Picton apartment complex has left one person dead, according to authorities.
The fire broke out on Monday evening at the apartment complex located on Main Street. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene and were able to contain the fire within a short period of time.
However, despite their efforts, one person was found deceased inside the building. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but authorities have confirmed that it started in one of the units on the second floor. The extent of the damage to the building is also being assessed.
Residents of the apartment complex were evacuated and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross. The surrounding area was also temporarily closed off to ensure the safety of the public.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to assist with the investigation. They will be working alongside local authorities to determine the cause of the fire and any potential safety concerns.
