Durham Police have announced the successful conclusion of “Project Martini,” a major drug investigation that resulted in the arrest of 92 individuals and the seizure of over $600,000 worth of illegal substances.
According to authorities, the operation began in January 2021 and targeted drug trafficking in the Durham region. The investigation involved multiple police units, including the Drug Enforcement Unit, the Tactical Support Unit, and the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
During the course of the investigation, police executed 27 search warrants and conducted numerous surveillance operations. As a result, they were able to seize a significant amount of drugs, including cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cannabis. In addition, they also confiscated over $100,000 in cash and several firearms.
Durham Police Chief Paul Martin praised the efforts of all the officers involved in the operation, stating, “This is a significant win for our community. The hard work and dedication of our officers have resulted in the removal of dangerous drugs from our streets and the arrest of those responsible for trafficking them.”
Among the 92 individuals charged, 72 are facing drug-related offenses, while the remaining 20 are facing firearm-related charges. The majority of those arrested are from the Durham region, but some are from other parts of Ontario and Quebec.
The success of “Project Martini” is a testament to the ongoing efforts of Durham Police to combat drug trafficking and keep the community safe. Chief Martin also emphasized the importance of community involvement in these types of investigations, stating, “We rely on the support and cooperation of our community to help us identify and target those who are involved in illegal activities.”
The 92 individuals charged in this operation will now face the justice system, and Durham Police are confident that their efforts will result in successful prosecutions. The seized drugs will also be analyzed to determine their potency and potential impact on the community.
As the investigation comes to a close, Durham Police are reminding the public to report any suspicious activity or information related to drug trafficking to their local authorities. They also urge those struggling with addiction to seek help and support from available resources.
In conclusion, “Project Martini” serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the dedication of law enforcement to keep our communities safe.
