A terrifying scene unfolded on Highway 11 yesterday as a transport truck was left dangling off a bridge, causing major traffic delays and concern for the driver’s safety.
The incident occurred around 11:30 am on the Highway 11 overpass at Seymour Street in North Bay. According to witnesses, the transport truck appeared to have lost control and crashed into the guardrail, causing it to teeter precariously over the edge of the bridge.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene, including the North Bay Fire Department, Ontario Provincial Police, and paramedics. The driver of the truck was safely rescued from the vehicle and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The highway was closed in both directions for several hours as crews worked to remove the truck from the bridge. Traffic was diverted onto local roads, causing significant delays for commuters.
Photos of the incident show the truck hanging over the edge of the bridge, with its cab completely crushed and the trailer partially hanging off the side. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
This is not the first time a transport truck has been involved in a serious incident on this stretch of Highway 11. In 2018, a similar incident occurred at the same location, with a truck crashing through the guardrail and dangling off the bridge. Fortunately, no one was injured in that incident.
The Ministry of Transportation has been made aware of the recurring issue and is looking into potential safety measures to prevent future accidents.
As of now, the highway has been reopened and traffic is flowing normally. However, drivers are advised to use caution and be aware of any potential hazards on the road.
