Toronto Police are currently searching for a suspect who allegedly shot at an officer during a traffic stop in the city.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Monday evening around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue West.
The officer had pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic stop when the driver suddenly opened fire, striking the police cruiser multiple times.
Thankfully, the officer was not injured and was able to return fire. The suspect then fled the scene in their vehicle.
Police have described the suspect as a Black male in his 20s, with a slim build and short hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and black pants.
The suspect’s vehicle is described as a dark-coloured sedan, possibly a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.
The Toronto Police Service’s Emergency Task Force and K9 unit were called in to assist with the search for the suspect, but he has not yet been located.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area to come forward and contact police.
