Winnipeg, MB – Residents of Winnipeg will have a special treat on their 100th birthday, as the Royal Canadian Air Force’s iconic Hercules aircraft will fly over their residence to mark the milestone.

The flyover, organized by the Royal Canadian Air Force and the City of Winnipeg, is a way to honor and celebrate the lives of those who have reached the impressive age of 100. The event will take place on June 1st, which is also the official 100th birthday of the city of Winnipeg.

The Hercules aircraft, also known as the “Herc,” is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft that has been in service with the Royal Canadian Air Force since 1960. It is a symbol of strength and resilience, making it the perfect choice to mark this special occasion.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Kevin McLeod, Commanding Officer of 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, the flyover is a way to recognize the contributions and achievements of Winnipeggers who have reached the age of 100. He also added that it is a way to show appreciation for the city and its people.

The flyover will begin at 1:00 pm and will cover various areas of the city, including downtown Winnipeg, St. Boniface, and St. Vital. The aircraft will fly at an altitude of 500 feet, allowing residents to get a clear view of the Hercules as it passes by.

Residents are encouraged to step outside and look up to the sky to catch a glimpse of the Hercules as it flies over their residence. The flyover is expected to last approximately 30 minutes, and the route map can be found on the City of Winnipeg’s website.

In addition to the flyover, the City of Winnipeg has also planned a series of virtual events and activities to celebrate its 100th birthday. These include a virtual concert, a historical photo exhibit, and a virtual tour of the city’s iconic landmarks.

The City of Winnipeg and the Royal Canadian Air Force are excited to celebrate this momentous occasion and hope that the flyover will bring joy and excitement to the residents of Winnipeg. It is a way to honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future of this vibrant and resilient city.
