Houston, Texas – The Houston Astros dominated the Toronto Blue Jays with a 9-2 victory on Tuesday night, thanks to a stellar performance from Yordan Alvarez and a nine-game hitting streak from Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Alvarez, the designated hitter for the Astros, led the team with three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the first inning. He also had a double and a single, finishing the game with a total of three hits.
Meanwhile, Guerrero Jr. continued his impressive hitting streak, going 1-for-4 with a single in the fourth inning. The 22-year-old has been on fire lately, hitting .500 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in his last nine games.
The Astros’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with every player in the starting lineup recording at least one hit. Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa also contributed to the team’s victory, each hitting a home run in the third and fifth innings, respectively.
On the pitching side, Astros starter Framber Valdez had a solid outing, allowing only two runs on six hits in six innings. He struck out four batters and walked two, earning his fourth win of the season.
The Blue Jays, on the other hand, struggled to get their offense going against the Astros’ strong pitching. Their only runs came from a two-run homer by Randal Grichuk in the fourth inning.
Despite the loss, the Blue Jays’ rookie pitcher Alek Manoah showed promise in his major league debut, striking out five batters in 3 1/3 innings.
The Astros now have a record of 33-26, while the Blue Jays fall to 30-27. The two teams will face off again on Wednesday night for the second game of their three-game series.
