Fire leaves 6 families homeless in Longueuil

A devastating fire in Longueuil has left six families homeless and in need of assistance.

The fire broke out in a residential building on Saint-Charles Street on Monday evening. Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene and were able to contain the blaze, but not before it caused significant damage to the building.

According to Longueuil Fire Department spokesperson, Martin Guilbault, the fire started on the second floor of the building and quickly spread to the third floor. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Thankfully, all residents were able to evacuate the building safely and there were no reported injuries. However, the six families who lived in the building have lost everything and are now in need of support.

The Red Cross has been called in to assist the families with temporary housing and basic necessities. The City of Longueuil has also offered its support and is working with the affected families to provide them with long-term solutions.

The fire has caused significant damage to the building, making it uninhabitable for the time being. The affected families will have to find alternative housing until the building can be repaired.

The Longueuil Fire Department is reminding residents to always have working smoke detectors in their homes and to have an evacuation plan in case of emergencies. They also urge everyone to be cautious when using heating devices during the colder months.

The community has already begun to rally together to support the affected families. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help them get back on their feet. The outpouring of support and generosity is a testament to the strong sense of community in Longueuil.

As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, our thoughts are with the families who have been displaced and we hope they are able to find comfort and support during this difficult time.
