Calgary Police have laid murder charges in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a hotel in the Shawnessy neighborhood.
According to authorities, the incident took place on the evening of August 5 at the Shawnessy Hotel on Shawville Boulevard. Police were called to the scene after receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Michael Alexander Dugas.
After an investigation, police have charged 27-year-old Brandon Jacob Spencer with second-degree murder in connection with Dugas’ death. Spencer was arrested on August 6 and remains in custody.
Police have not released any information about a possible motive for the shooting or the relationship between the victim and the accused.
This is not the first time the Shawnessy Hotel has been the site of a violent incident. In 2018, a man was shot and killed in the hotel’s parking lot. The case remains unsolved.
